This piece is by ceramic artist Toshifumi Tashiro, who creates pottery in Mashiko, a town renowned for its ceramics.
Mr. Tashiro's works are characterized by their sharp, dignified forms and a calm color palette centered around monotones.
His styles include "haiyu" (ash glaze) and "kurohaiyu" (black ash glaze) using oak ash, metallic "manganese" and "madara yuyaku" (speckled glaze), and his new "onita" (red iron oxide glaze).
While each piece has a different finish, they all embody Mr. Tashiro's unique aesthetic.
