Mutsumi Ohashi, who has a studio in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, creates works that strongly bring out the characteristics of the clay.
The rough texture and the beauty of modern forms.
The coexistence of these two elements is what makes Ohashi's work so appealing.
Ohashi uses both a wood-fired kiln, which he fires only a few times a year, and a kerosene kiln, which he uses daily.
He creates his works by moving back and forth between processes, such as using ash from the wood-fired kiln as ash glaze and then firing it in the kerosene kiln.
This time, he is also attempting to re-fire works that were fired in the kerosene kiln in the wood-fired kiln.
Each piece, having gone through the elements of earth, fire, and ash, returns to the flames once again.
The power that makes you feel the energy of nature, and the quiet gaze that confronts the materials and processes.
We hope you can experience the current work of Mutsumi Ohashi.
