Like quietly observing and recording the changing sky, it's a time to re-examine oneself, ever-changing day by day, through the form of a vessel.
Eriko Minami's work quietly encompasses two different approaches.
One is a sophisticated and neat vessel with a smooth matte glaze.
The other is a painterly vessel created by hand-forming and layering and scraping multiple layers of slip.
If the former represents "the stillness of thought" and "a well-ordered daily life (stillness),"
the latter might be described as "a faint heat" pulsing deep within and "an urge for expression (motion)."
The smoky gray gradations and layers of clay, like weathered rock faces.
Not loudly asserting themselves, but simply possessing the tone of everyday life, these vessels
quietly bring into focus the user's memories and recollections, much like old photographs or a view through a window.
This is Eriko Minami's current position, where the opposing "stillness" and "motion" coexist in harmony within a single, quiet world without ever clashing.
The title of this exhibition, "Weather Report," embodies this objective tranquility and the meaning of subtle daily recollections.
