Glass artist Kanako Minato creates her work in Akita Prefecture.

She uses a technique called "pate de verre," which involves filling a mold made from a clay prototype with glass powder and fragments and firing it in an electric kiln.

It is a very labor-intensive and time-consuming method because each piece of glass is removed by breaking the plaster mold one by one.

Unlike other glass techniques, pate de verre has its unique charms, such as air bubbles that enter between the layers of fine glass particles, delicate gradations created with colored glass, and a solid, substantial appearance.
