Mutsumi Ohashi, who has a studio in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, creates works that strongly bring out the characteristics of the clay.
The rough expression and the beauty of modern forms.
The charm of Ohashi's work lies in the coexistence of these two elements.
Ohashi uses both a wood-fired kiln, which is fired only a few times a year, and an oil-fired kiln, which is used daily.
He creates his works by moving back and forth between processes, such as using the ash from the wood-fired kiln as ash glaze and then firing it in the oil-fired kiln.
This time, he is also attempting to re-fire works that were originally fired in an oil-fired kiln, in a wood-fired kiln.
Each piece, having gone through the elements of earth, fire, and ash, returns to the flames once more.
The power that conveys the energy of nature, and the quiet gaze that confronts the materials and processes.
We hope you can feel the current state of Mutsumi Ohashi's work.
