Glass artist Kanako Minato creates her works in Akita Prefecture.
She uses a technique called "pate de verre," which involves filling a mold made from a clay model with glass powder and fragments and then firing it in an electric kiln.
This method is very labor-intensive and time-consuming because each glass piece must be removed by breaking the plaster mold one by one.
Unlike other glass techniques, pate de verre offers unique charm, such as the air bubbles that form between the layers of fine glass particles, delicate gradations achieved with colored glass, and a substantial, solid appearance.
