Mutsumi Ohashi Ash Glaze Round Cup

Mutsumi Ohashi, who has a studio in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, creates works that strongly bring out the characteristics of the clay.
The beauty of modern forms coexists with an untamed expression.
This coexistence is where Ohashi's appeal lies.

Ohashi uses both a wood-fired kiln, which she fires only a few times a year, and an oil-fired kiln, which she uses daily.
She creates her works by moving between processes, such as using ash from the wood-fired kiln as ash glaze and firing it in the oil-fired kiln.

This time, she is also undertaking an attempt to re-fire works that were initially fired in the oil-fired kiln in the wood-fired kiln.
Each piece, having cycled through the elements of earth, fire, and ash, returns once again into the flames.

The power emanating from the energy of nature, and a quiet gaze directed at the materials and processes.
