Mutsumi Ohashi, who has a studio in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, creates works that strongly draw out the nature of clay.
The beauty of modern forms coexists with an untamed, rugged appearance.
It is in this coexistence that Ohashi's appeal lies.

Ohashi uses a wood-fired kiln, which she fires only a few times a year, and a kerosene kiln, which she uses daily, selectively. She creates her works by moving back and forth between processes, such as using ash from the wood-fired kiln as ash glaze and then firing it in the kerosene kiln.

This time, she is also attempting to re-fire works that were initially fired in the kerosene kiln in the wood-fired kiln. Each piece, having circulated through the elements of earth, fire, and ash, returns to the flames once more.

There is a powerful quality that evokes the energy of nature, and a quiet gaze that confronts the materials and processes.
We hope you can experience the current work of Mutsumi Ohashi.
