Mutsumi Ohashi, who has a studio in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, creates works that strongly draw out the nature of the clay.
The beauty of modern forms coexists with the rough, unrefined appearance.
It is in this coexistence that Ohashi's charm lies.

Ohashi uses a wood-fired kiln, which is fired only a few times a year, and an oil-fired kiln, which is used daily, interchangeably.
He creates his works by moving back and forth between processes, for example, using ash generated in the wood-fired kiln as ash glaze and firing it in the oil-fired kiln.

This time, he is also attempting to re-fire works that were fired in an oil-fired kiln in a wood-fired kiln.
Each piece, having gone through the elements of earth, fire, and ash, returns to the flames once more.

The powerfulness that evokes the energy of nature, and the quiet gaze that confronts the materials and processes.
We hope you can experience the present work of Mutsumi Ohashi.
