Mutsumi Ohashi, who has a studio in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, creates works that strongly draw out the nature of the clay.
The beauty of modern forms coexists with an unrefined texture.
This coexistence is where Ohashi's charm lies.
Ohashi uses both a wood-fired kiln, which is fired only a few times a year, and a kerosene kiln, which is used daily.
He creates his works by moving back and forth between processes, such as using the ash generated in the wood-fired kiln as ash glaze and firing it in the kerosene kiln.
This time, he is also attempting to re-fire works that were fired in a kerosene kiln in a wood-fired kiln.
Each piece, having gone through the elements of earth, fire, and ash, returns to the flames once again.
The power that makes you feel the energy of nature, and a quiet gaze that confronts the materials and processes.
We hope you can experience the current work of Mutsumi Ohashi.
