Mutsumi Ohashi, who has a studio in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, creates works that strongly draw out the properties of clay.
The beauty of modern forms coexists with an expression that retains its roughness.
This coexistence is where Ohashi's charm lies.

Ohashi uses a wood-fired kiln, which is fired only a few times a year, and an oil kiln, which is used daily, for different purposes.
She uses the ash from the wood-fired kiln as ash glaze and fires it in the oil kiln, creating her works by going back and forth between processes.

This time, she is also attempting to re-fire works that were fired in an oil kiln in a wood-fired kiln.
Each work, having circulated through the elements of earth, fire, and ash, returns to the flames once again.

The power that makes one feel the energy of nature, and a quiet gaze that confronts materials and processes.
We hope you can experience the current state of Mutsumi Ohashi's work.
