Mutsumi Ohashi, who has a studio in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, creates works that strongly bring out the characteristics of the earth.
The beauty of modern forms coexists with an unrefined aesthetic.
That coexistence is where Ohashi's charm lies.
Ohashi uses both a wood-fired kiln, which is fired only a few times a year, and a kerosene kiln, which is used daily.
He creates his works by moving between processes, such as using the ash from the wood-fired kiln as ash glaze and then firing it in the kerosene kiln.
This time, he is also attempting to re-fire works that were fired in a kerosene kiln in a wood-fired kiln.
Each piece, having gone through the elements of earth, fire, and ash, returns to the flames once again.
The power emanating from natural energy and a quiet gaze confronting materials and processes.
We hope you can experience Mutsumi Ohashi's present works.
