Mutsumi Ohashi, who has a studio in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, creates works that strongly draw out the nature of the clay.
The beauty of modern forms coexists with an unrefined aesthetic.
This coexistence is where Ohashi's charm lies.
Ohashi uses both a wood-fired kiln, which is fired only a few times a year, and a daily-use oil kiln.
Ash produced in the wood-fired kiln is used as ash glaze, which is then fired in the oil kiln, and so on, creating works by moving back and forth between processes.
This time, she is also attempting to re-fire works that were fired in an oil kiln in the wood-fired kiln.
Each piece, having gone through the elements of clay, fire, and ash, returns to the flames once more.
The power that makes you feel the energy of nature, and a quiet gaze that confronts the materials and processes.
We hope you can experience the current state of Mutsumi Ohashi's work.
