Mutsumi Ohashi, who has a studio in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, creates works that strongly bring out the characteristics of clay.
The beauty of modern forms coexists with a rugged aesthetic.
This coexistence is where Ohashi's charm lies.
Ohashi uses both a wood-fired kiln, which she fires only a few times a year, and an oil kiln, which she uses daily.
She creates her works by moving back and forth between processes, such as using ash from the wood-fired kiln as ash glaze and then firing it in the oil kiln.
This time, she is also attempting to re-fire works that were initially fired in the oil kiln in the wood-fired kiln.
Each piece, having gone through the elements of earth, fire, and ash, returns to the flames once again.
The powerfulness that evokes the energy of nature and a quiet gaze that confronts the materials and processes.
We hope you will experience Mutsumi Ohashi's current artistic endeavors.
