Mutsumi Ohashi, who has a studio in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, creates works that strongly draw out the nature of the clay.
The rough texture and the beauty of contemporary forms.
The charm of Ohashi's work lies in the coexistence of these two elements.
Ohashi uses both a wood-fired kiln, which is fired only a few times a year, and an oil-fired kiln, which is used daily.
He creates his works by moving back and forth between processes, such as using the ash produced in the wood-fired kiln as ash glaze and then firing it in the oil-fired kiln.
This time, he is also attempting to re-fire works that were fired in an oil-fired kiln in a wood-fired kiln.
Each piece goes back into the flames, circulating through the elements of earth, fire, and ash.
The power that conveys the energy of nature, and a quiet gaze that confronts the materials and processes.
We hope you can experience the present state of Mutsumi Ohashi's work.
