Mutsumi Ohashi, who has a studio in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, creates works that strongly draw out the nature of the clay.
The beauty of modern forms coexists with an unrefined, rugged appearance.
It is in this coexistence that Mr. Ohashi's charm lies.

Mr. Ohashi selectively uses a wood-fired kiln, which he fires only a few times a year, and a kerosene kiln, which he uses daily.
He creates his works by moving back and forth between processes, such as using the ash produced in the wood-fired kiln as ash glaze and then firing it in the kerosene kiln.

This time, he is also attempting to refire works that were previously fired in the kerosene kiln, in the wood-fired kiln.
Each individual piece, having traversed the elements of earth, fire, and ash, returns to the flames once more.

The power emanating from natural energy, and a quiet gaze confronting the materials and processes.
We hope you can experience the present state of Mutsumi Ohashi's work.
