Mutsumi Ohashi, who has a studio in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, creates works that strongly bring out the characteristics of the clay.
The rough texture and the beauty of modern forms.
The coexistence of these two elements is where Ohashi's charm lies.
Ohashi uses both a wood-fired kiln, which is fired only a few times a year, and a kerosene kiln, which is used daily.
He creates his works by moving back and forth between processes, such as using ash from the wood-fired kiln as ash glaze and then firing it in the kerosene kiln.
This time, he is also attempting to re-fire works that have been fired in the kerosene kiln, in the wood-fired kiln.
Each piece, having gone through the elements of earth, fire, and ash, returns to the flames once again.
The powerful strength that makes one feel the energy of nature, and the quiet gaze that confronts the materials and processes.
We hope you can experience the present work of Mutsumi Ohashi.
