We will be holding a solo exhibition by ceramic artist Mutsumi Yamada, who creates her works in Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
In the Oku-Noto Suzu region, "Suzuyaki" flourished from the Middle Ages but disappeared completely during the Sengoku period.
Recently, after approximately 400 years, it has been revived in the Suzu region.
Ms. Yamada's works utilize the characteristics of Suzuyaki, which is grayish-black and has a rough texture, while incorporating modern forms, a lightness that makes them easy for everyday use, and unique designs with white slip decoration, making each piece truly distinctive.
Suzuyaki is a type of pottery that is fired at high temperatures without glaze.
It is said to have a water purification effect, making flowers last longer in flower vases and enhancing the taste of sake in sake cups.
We hope you will take this opportunity to incorporate the contemporary "Suzuyaki" created by Ms. Yamada into your daily life.
